Today we can announce that Andfjord Salmon AS has today received the official aquaculture permit document for land-based food fish farming of salmon, trout and rainbow trout at Kvalnes land area, cf. attachments.
Andfjord Salmon has already created international interest with its innovative patent for breeding salmon on shore. The method ensures the flow of pure nutrient-rich Atlantic water with optimum breeding temperature both summer and winter. The salmon thus get living conditions that give high fish welfare and good growth.
With a short distance to the airport for export, wind turbine for green energy and its own port, Andfjord Salmon's location is unique in a world context. In addition, Andfjord Salmon aquaculture facilities are escape-proof, lice-free and do not expose marine life to pollution or disturbance.
The goal of Andfjord Salmon has been since its inception to develop the most optimal operation of a land-based farming facility, which both minimizes climate and reduces energy consumption to a minimum. Emissions from the farm will be taken care of, and are planned to be used for energy purposes and soil improvement. There is many years of experience from both traditional and land-based farming, which has resulted in Andfjord Salmon now obtaining a license for farming of both salmon, rainbow trout and trout. In the process, Andfjord Salmon AS has had access to interdisciplinary expertise and experienced professionals.
The main difference between Andfjord Salmon and the most common land-based fish farms (RAS) is that these are much more technologically complex with advanced water treatment, while Andfjord Salmon has 100% throughput with continuous renewal of fresh seawater. Andfjord Salmon also aims to remove feed and excrement from the discharge and use it well. Construction is set for the first quarter of 2019, and production is expected to start in 2020. A total of ten pool units will eventually be built to provide ample space with stable, oxygen-rich seawater for farmed fish.
Andfjord Salmon is now embarking on a capital process for financing a start-up pool and will provide more information when this is ready. The timeline for this is set for January and February 2019.
